MicroStation CONNECT Edition has introduced a new feature which allows user to export and import Item Type's data in Excel format(.xlsx). This feature is accessible from both, Ribbon as well as Key-ins.
In the Ribbon it is accessible from:
Drawing > Content > Item Types
Drawing > Attach > Item Types
Click the Import/Export icon to open the below dialog:
1. Item Type Definition Export:
To export an item type definition, select appropriate options and valid Excel file path in the Item Type Import/Export tool setting window and click Export.Your custom Item Type definitions in Item Type dialog will be exported to the specified location.
Keyin : itemtype definitions export excel <Valid Excel file>
2. Item Type Definition Import:
To import an item type definition, select appropriate options and desired excel file (or excel file exported from Item Type Import/Export tool) and click Import. Excel file will be imported and new definition entries will be created if they are not available and available entries (if any) will be modified.

3. Item Type Instance Export:
To export an Item Type instance, set Selection Type to All, Current Selection or By Fence and select destination folder to export Excel file.
Selection Type:
1. All - All the instances available in the active DGN file will be exported to Excel file.
2. Current Selection - Only selected elements will be considered for export to Excel file.
3. By Fence - Only elements contained inside the fence will be considered for export to Excel file.
Instances will be exported based on Item type libraries. For each library one Excel file containing instance data will be created.

4. Item Type Instance Import:
To import an Item Type instance, select appropriate options and desired Excel file (or exported from Item Type Import/Export tool) and click Import.
The file will be imported and available instance data will be modified as per the Excel specified.
