In this tip we will be looking at the "Insert Drawing Border" command.
MicroStation AutoCAD
This tool will allow the user to insert pre-selected drawing border into ModelSpace / PaperSpace (AutoCAD) or Model Mode / 2D Sheet Mode (MicroStation).
When selecting this tool with the bottons shown above, you will see the following dialog box appear.
The current content (V8i) of this dialog box was created under an old version of ProSteel and will not work. You will have to either redefine the existing border definitions or delete them and create your own. In this example I am going to show you how to create new definitions.
First select the root of the tree (Sizes) and either right-click or press the button show bellow
The new "Node" is created and you can give it a custom name.
Next, press the button shown bellow in order to create the border definition.
A new dialog box appears. In this dialog box you need to do a few things. Here are the explanations for each of them:
- Block path:
Browse to the location of the border frame you want to use. In this case I will be pointing to the provided border in the FORMAT folder under the USA_CANADA Localised folder. I will create two border definitions, both for D-Size, one at 1/4":1'-0" scale and one at real scale (1:1) (BENTLEY-D-IMP_SC48.dwg/dgn & BENTLEY-D-IMP.dwg/dgn) - Width:
If you want to use the limits (AutoCAD only...I think...need to test under MicroStation), enter them here or use the button to select predefined limits - Comment:
Simple text to help you remember what this definition was for/about
Once you close this dialog box, you are back to the previous dialog box and the newly created definition appears in the list. Remember I created 2 definitions so I should see 2 border definitions as bellow:
Now to insert the border into your drawing you need to specify the scale and if you want the limits defined in the definition to be used or not. I will not use the limits and will leave the scale at 1. In this example I created two definitions of the same border frame, one at 1:1 and one of the exact same border scaled 48 times (1/4":1'-0"). I could have created only one at 1:1 and simply use the scale option before inserting in this dialog box to create it at 48.
The last thing to explain is that you can say in which mode you want to insert, ModelSpace (Model for MicroStation) or PaperSpace (Sheet for MicroStation) regardless of the active mode you are in when using the tool.
ModelSpace / Model PaperSpace / Sheet
Note: There is a problem with the SHEET insertion method under MicroStation right now. This is being looked at right now by our developers.
